Insurance review
Understand the coverage you have before deciding whether to keep, change or replace it.
Reviews may address life insurance, disability coverage, long-term care policies and annuities, including benefits, premiums, cash values, guarantees, exclusions, surrender terms and available alternatives.
There are many components to an insurance policy, depending on the type of policy. Policies between companies can be difficult to compare, and the various features are called by different names, and have different details. Except for term insurance, it is impossible for a lay person to make an analysis that is accurate. (And even with term insurance, depending on additional benefits, sometimes the choice of policy is not obvious.)
The easy comparison is comparing premiums, and the apparent benefit. For instance, a 10 year term policy for $1,000,000 that costs $435 a year from one company and $595 a year from another is obviously the better choice if:
- the company is highly rated,
- you will only need it for 10 years and not any more,
- the sole purpose is for death benefit,
- the riders are the same,
- the premium is the same for 10 years,
- and the rate quoted will be the rate offered.
And this is the easy comparison!
Permanent insurance, disability insurance, long term care insurance, and annuities are much harder to compare.
That is why I provide advice—to make sure you are not only getting the best rate, but also the benefits you want and need.
